RCU Drops Home Opener to Knoxville

To say Rocket City United started slowly Saturday night would be an understatement.  After just 10 minutes, Knoxville had taken advantage of two defensive mistakes to go up 2:0.  It took another 30 minutes to make a dent in the Force lead when Freddy Okello slotted a goal to bring the Rockets back into within one, but that's as close as it would get.  Despite better play in the second half, RCU couldn't break down the bunkering Knoxville defense, and RCU dropped three points, 2:1.

  1. Any idea on the size of the crowd for the game against the Force? I read in the RCU report that about 600 were in attendence, does this seem right? Also, how was the field conditions? Wish I could be there but a wedding kept me away.

  2. The crowd certainly didn't look like the announced 604. It looked more like 400 max. I guess they added in the 200 or so season tix to that number. It was a nasty weather night. So, I'm sure the crowd would have been larger on a nice night.

  3. How did the field look? I had heard that the City was doing some work to it and hoped that it would be superior to last years pitch.

  4. The field is much improved over last year. The sod along the touchline is no longer an inch about the rest of the turf. There are only a few bare patches now.

Also, the city did not paint the logos in the center and endzones for the spring football scrimmage this year. So, hopefully the gridiron lines will be gone in a few weeks, and there will be a pristine soccer field.
